Dr. Rodriguez regularly performs a wide range of weight loss surgeries: gastric band (lap band), gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, conversion of band to sleeve and bypass, band over bypass, as well as revisions to failed bariatric operations. He is also experienced in Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery for gallbladder, appendix, hernia and other conditions.

Dr. Rodriguez established the First Center of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery in the state of Texas in 2005 and is currently the director of three Centers of Excellence Bariatric Surgery Programs in the United States (Dallas, Texas; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Decatur, Texas). He was named one of Dallas’ Best Doctors in D magazine in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and is a frequently published author in peer review journals included serving as editorial reviewer for the journal SOARD (Surgery of Obesity and Related Diseases).

Dr. Rodriguez was a pioneer in Hand-Assisted Laparoscopic Surgery for gastric bypass and other complex operations. With over 20 years of surgical experience (10 years in bariatric surgery) and having performed over 4,000 bariatric operations, he is considered on of the country’s outstanding surgeons. A decorated U.S. Air Force veteran and military surgeon, he served as a surgeon in the 1991 Gulf War.
