Even when undergoing a procedure already tried out through and through like the Gastric Sleeve or the Gastric Plication, some patients arrive with a nervous and anxious look in their faces. Even in today’s age where information is at our fingertips in our cell phones, tablets and laptops, they sometimes come in and don’t know what to expect from their procedure. Sometimes it’s an underlying issue that the patient already suffers from.
So what can we do as health professionals to help a patient when they feel anxious before weight loss surgery?
Here at Obesity Control Center, we try to go the extra mile for each patient. All our staff takes a moment to greet the patients, because we understand that some are nervous because they are in a foreign country, we try to make them feel as home as possible, explaining every part of the process so they know what to expect and also chatting about anything in particular.
We understand that anxiety is a natural part of the process, but here at Obesity Control Center we always try to take away one of the biggest factors that slows down the recovery process. We’ve seen patients that are anxious to have longer recovery times than those who are calm. These patients require more medication and it takes a longer time for medication to take effect.
Patients that come here for Weight Loss Surgery, leave knowing they made the right choice and they wonder why they were anxious in the first place. If you feel nervous about coming to us for help, the only thing you should worry is how much weight you will lose.
