I was a 37-year-old mom of two active boys, who life my whole life as the ‘big girl’ or being what I perceived as the ‘fat mom’. I wanted to be a healthy mom, I wanted to live a full life for my boys, my husband and for me! I was tired of being the one that couldn’t participate because of my weight. I had a meeting with a friend who was going to OCC in a few weeks, she told me her struggle and how the OCC was going to help her. I researched day and night for over a month, literally every spare minute was spent looking at surgery options and clinics. I determined the best option for me was the sleeve and although I looked at many clinics, each time I weighed the pros and cons the OCC was always leagues above the rest.
I traveled by myself from Canada to Mexico, I remember being nervous and scared, these feelings quickly passed as soon as I met the staff at the OCC. They took time to answer my questions, they were patient and thorough in their assessments and directions in what to expect. I had very little pain after surgery, was up and walking right away, however I did have some nausea. The medical team was quick to respond and was very supportive. They ensured I had what I needed to be comfortable and recover. The care I received at the OCC was at or above the care I have received here in Canada in my past hospital stays.
I will be honest; it is not easy, and this is not a miracle fix it is a tool. You must change your life if you want to succeed, OCC will help you with the surgery, and after care but I quickly found I was the one in control and I had to be in control for this to work. I started my journey at 280 pounds, however at times in my life I did way significantly more then this. Today I am 155, I have lost 125lbs and kept it off as I just passed my 4th sleeve-aversary in March 2020.
I have gained so much in my life but one of the best changes are the ability to not only keep up with my teenage kids, but also out last them and be an active mom that is teaching them how to live a healthy life. I also have the confidence on the outside that was always hiding on the inside and it has allowed me to have success in my life and career beyond what I could have imagined. Everyone’s journey is different, I have learned a lot about myself and continue to learn more each day. I listened to the OCC advice and I followed their plan, this to me is the key factor my success to. They are a great team of qualified staff; they know what they are doing and what it takes to succeed. I would highly recommend this team for anyone that is looking to start their own journey.
