After spending 25+ years of fad dieting and losing and gaining the same weight, I came to the realization that I was spending the majority of my time sitting on the sidelines and letting life just pass me by.
I was saying “no” to so many things in life because of my extra weight, causing not only myself, but my husband and my children to miss out on opportunities to live life to the fullest and make amazing memories. I’m also genetically predisposed to a long list of health issues including diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, cancer and so much more. Watching my loved ones suffer through these awful ailments has made me appreciate just how important it is for me to lose this weight once and for all.
So after I suffered a severe neck injury in an auto accident in 2016, which caused me over the next year to gain almost all my weight back that I had worked so hard to lose the previous 3 years, I was fed up and desperate to get the weight off for good. I started looking into bariatric surgery options for myself and that’s when found Dr. Ariel Ortiz and the OCC. After extensive research, I knew with 100% certainty that they were going to be my choice. Not only is Dr. Ortiz a double board-certified surgeon, but he is the only one that created and performs the DBT (Double Buttress Technique) that reinforces the staple line of the stomach during surgery to prevent any gastric leakage – which is exactly what I was so terrified of after having witnessed my mom recover from this very thing after her cancer surgery.
Traveling to the OCC in Tijuana from the States was a breeze. The OCC has everything set up for you and they are there to help guide you every step of the way before and after surgery. Dr. Ortiz and his surgical team gave me the tool that I needed to far exceed any results I was able to do on my own! I had my surgery on August 2, 2018, and so far, I have lost a total of 101 pounds and was actually able to fit into a skirt I haven’t worn since I was 17!! What?!? I have just recently had skin removal surgery, which has just been the icing on the cake, and has allowed all that OCC helped me to accomplish finally come to the surface and be seen. I’m so grateful to have found Dr. Ariel Ortiz and his amazing staff at the OCC! I’m finally living life to the fullest for the first time ever and I couldn’t be happier!
