I have struggled with being overweight since my teens. Diabetes and heart disease run in my family and I already have high cholesterol and I was going to end up a diabetic just based on my body fat distribution. I was diagnosed with PCOS in my late 20's and had issues getting pregnant even with fertility treatment. I was always tired and my joints and body always hurt. This helped me to make excuses to not work out or be active, but I wanted to live a healthier, more active life with my husband and children. A couple of friends had sleeve surgery in the states and some have had success and others have not. Being a nurse, I already knew what my options were. I started researching in 2018, found OCC in 2019, and surgery was scheduled for 2020. However, Covid shut everything down and I postponed until 2021. Many of my colleagues (physicians and nurses) at the hospital voiced their concerns about me 'going to Mexico' for surgery, but I did my research and felt 100 % confident in my decision. I felt like OCC has a better support system after surgery and of course, their complication rate is next to nothing. I am so glad that I chose OCC. The entire surgery process was top-notch, better than many facilities that I have worked or been treated at here in the states . I tell everyone that OCC has got it together and I would not hesitate to go back. It has been a year since surgery, I have lost 75 pounds and I have taken up horse riding with my daughter. I need to work out more and tone my body but at least I don't make excuses anymore. Thank you so much Dr. Ortiz and your fantastic team for giving me the tool I needed to change my life.
